Aroid Potting Mix for Monstera, Philodendron, Syngonium & Tropical Houseplants

Give your aroids the right growing medium with The Urban Gardening Shop Aroid Potting Mix, a well-draining soilless potting media specially blended for Monsteras, Philodendrons, Syngoniums, Arrowheads, and other tropical houseplants.

Aroids do not thrive in compact, heavy garden soil. When excess water stays trapped around the roots, it may lead to poor root growth, fungal issues, and root rot. Our Aroid Mix is designed to provide a better balance of drainage, aeration, and moisture retention so roots can grow freely and breathe properly.

Available Sizes:

  • 2 Liters / approximately 800 grams

  • 8 Liters / approximately 3,200 grams

Why Use Aroid Potting Mix?

One of the most common mistakes in growing tropical houseplants is using a potting medium that holds too much water. Heavy soil can become compacted over time, limiting airflow and restricting root growth.

Aroids generally prefer a loose, airy, well-draining potting media that allows excess water to pass through while still retaining enough moisture for healthy root development. This mix helps support stronger roots, better drainage, and healthier plant growth.

What’s Inside Our Aroid Mix?

Composted Coco Peat

Helps retain the right amount of moisture while keeping the mix light and suitable for container gardening.

Coco Chunks

Creates air pockets around the roots and helps improve drainage. Coco chunks also hold some moisture, helping prevent the roots from drying out too quickly.

Vermicast

A natural source of organic nutrients that helps support healthy plant growth and root development.

Burnt Rice Hull

Helps improve drainage, aeration, and overall mix structure.

Pumice

A lightweight mineral component that helps improve drainage and reduces the risk of the mix becoming too compact.

Neem Powder

A natural plant-based ingredient commonly used in potting mixes to help support healthier soil conditions.

Acacia Leaves and Hydroton

Included in the Chunky Premium Mix only. Acacia leaves add natural organic matter, while hydroton clay pebbles help improve aeration and drainage while holding some moisture.

How to Use

  1. Open the bag and pour the contents onto a clean gardening mat or tray.

  2. Mix the contents thoroughly so the chunky ingredients are evenly distributed.

  3. Choose a pot with proper drainage holes.

  4. Place some larger chunks at the bottom of the pot to improve airflow and drainage.

  5. Position your plant and gently fill the sides with the Aroid Potting Mix.

  6. Water deeply and allow excess water to drain completely.

  7. Keep the plant in bright, indirect light and water only when the top portion of the mix starts to dry.

For best results, avoid letting the pot sit in standing water.
