Urban Gardening Mom Gets Badge of Excellence from Feedspot

Recently, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a note from Anuj Agarwal, founder of Feedspot, personally congratulating my blog for making it to the top 100 Urban Blogs on the web. Feedspot is a modern content reader that allows its users to subscribe to their favorite websites so new content gets to them as soon as it gets posted. It monitors all trending posts on urban lifestyle worldwide and ranks them according to Google reputation and search ranking, influence and popularity on social media sites, quality and consistency of posts, and Feedspot’s own editorial team review.

Receiving this recognition is truly a great honor on my part.  Most of the blogs  that made it to the list were highly established websites from top urban cities worldwide.  It was only about a year ago when I created http://urbangardeningmom.com.   Being a corporate person all my life, I was not really your typical techie blogger.  The only social media account that I had then was with Facebook, and I wasn’t even actively posting.  Everything else was all too complicated for me.

Urban Gardening Mom was borne out of my own frustration when I was researching about urban gardening, specifically in the Philippine setting. While there are currently numerous sites on gardening,  local Philippine blogs on this topic are very limited (see About Me).   I thus made it my personal advocacy to reach out to more Filipinos and spread the word about urban gardening.

Fortunately,  I found a lot of materials online about  starting and maintaining a blog. Over time, I also discovered more blogging techniques like Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing and all that other stuff to improve Google ranking, increase the number of  hits, etc.  I had to learn all these things during my limited spare time —  after office, waiting for my flight at the airport, or mostly on weekends.

The website is a continuing work in progress.  I do not profess to be an expert in urban gardening, but I do try to maintain a high level of credibility by posting blog contents from my own experience as a gardening enthusiast.  Recently,  I got the chance to appear in a popular cable network program Green Living on ANC channel, as well as on network TV station ABS-CBN via the weekly program Salamat Dok.  How’s that for free publicity!

My ultimate goal is to introduce more people, especially the young ones, to urban gardening.  Gardening helps our children build the basic foundations that will help them succeed later in life — patience, perseverance, concern for others and caring for the environment, to name a few.   In this digital age, it is important that we inculcate these values in our kids.

As a final note, let me thank all my followers and subscribers. Your feedback and comments had been truly inspiring.  As in gardening, the most exhilarating moment in life is when you get to see the fruits of your labor and hard work slowly taking shape.

Happy gardening everyone!
