WHY USE ONLY A SPECIAL POTTING MIX FOR CACTI AND SUCCULENTS?
Cacti and other succulents can store moisture in their own pads, stems and trunks. This allows them to withstand drought and extremely dry environments. Majority of these types of plants make an excellent houseplant because of their minimal requirements for maintenance. Some cacti even produce lovely or colorful flowers.
While maintenance is rarely required for them, their roots can be very sensitive to moisture- too much of it can cause the roots to rot. Therefore, using the right potting mix is important for cacti and succulents. Ordinary potting media either retain too much moisture or dries up too quickly.
This potting mix is specifically recommended for Cactus and Succulents. Unlike the regular potting mix, it contains more pumice stones which help retain just enough moisture for the cacti to absorb as they need it. It also drains water faster, thus preventing excess moisture from accumulating at the roots.

WHAT IS AN IDEAL POTTING MEDIA FOR YOUR CACTUS & SUCCULENTS?
A typical potting mix is composed of ORGANIC components, like coco peat, worm castings or carbonized rice hull, as well as INORGANIC components (usually, pumice or perlite). Most succulents, especially those that are locally cultivated, will grow in any type of well-draining potting media. In fact, most will thrive in either pure pumice or in any organic matter like coco peat. However, there's a greater chance that plump succulents staying too wet if grown in a pure coco peat mix, and delicate succulents drying out too quickly when grown in pure pumice.
Therefore, for most succulents, our half-and-half mix where pumice composes around 50% of the mixture is what we recommend. This is your starting mixture, since 95% of succulents will thrive in this type of mix. Then adjust the ratio, according to the plant (ie the fleshier the succulents, the more pumice or perlite can be added) or according to your lifestyle and watering preference. Let common sense guide you, adjust the potting mix (or your watering frequency), as you see fit.
IMPORTANT: Beware of online sellers who falsely claim that their mixture of 70% PUMICE AND 30% CARBONIZED RICE HULL mixture is the best for your cactus and succulents. In reality, their mixture of mostly pumice offers very little or no additional benefit for your succulents, and the primary reason why they offer their own type of mix is because these materials are much cheaper. On the contrary, our mixture gives you more value for your money because it is already complete with essential organic nutrients that your succulent babies need for them to grow well.
