Bone Ash, also known as Bone Char, is a natural organic product made from the ashes of livestock animal bones. It is a valuable source of essential nutrients, particularly phosphorus and calcium, which are beneficial for flowering and fruiting. Bone Ash has been used for centuries as a soil amendment to improve soil fertility and promote healthy plant growth.

One of the primary benefits of using bone ash in gardening is its high phosphorus content. Phosphorus is a vital nutrient for plants, playing a crucial role in energy transfer, root development, and flower / fruit production. Bone Ash contains a significant amount of phosphorus in a form that is readily available to plants. By incorporating bone ash into the soil, gardeners can ensure that their plants have an adequate supply of phosphorus, leading to stronger roots, increased flowering and heavier fruits.

Bone Ash is also an excellent source of calcium, another essential nutrient for plants, Calcium is necessary for cell wall formation, proper nutrient uptake, and overall plant structure and stability.  Adequate calcium levels in the soil help prevent common plant disorders, such as blossom end rot in tomatoes and tip burn in lettuce.

Bone Ash also contains other trace elements and minerals that are beneficial for plants. These include magnesium, potassium, zinc and iron, among others. These micronutrients play important roles in various plant processes, such as photosynthesis, and hormone regulation.

Finally, Bone Ash also acts as a soil conditioner, improving soil structure and enhancing its water-holding capacity. It is 100% natural and bio-degradable. As such, it is environment-friendly and sustainable. It is completely safe for use at home and around pets and kids.

How to use Bone Ash

For most potted plants, we recommend to limit to  2 tablespoons per 3-gallon plant pot.  Use as top-dressing around established plants. Watering the area helps activate the nutrients and ensures their proper absorption by plants. For best use, it can be combined with other organic soil conditioners like Blood Meal,  Feather Meal, Kelp Meal and/or Alfalfa Meal, during application. Apply Bone Ash during the start of flowering stage, and repeat application after 4 weeks during flowering or fruiting stage.

While Bone Ash has no expiry date, it is best to consume it within 2 years from purchase.
